How Meditation Can Enhance Your Reiki Treatment

If you’ve read any kind of wellness articles or blogs in the past few years, you’ve probably already heard about the many benefits of meditation. Everyone from energy healers to physicians extol its virtues because it can be such a positive practice to introduce into your life. While a daily meditation practice can help with mindfulness and provide you with a sense of calm, there’s another use for it as well. Meditation can actually help to improve your reiki treatment. Want to know more about how reiki and meditation go together? Keep reading below to learn how meditation can enhance your reiki treatment!

What is reiki?
First off, some basics: reiki is a healing technique that’s been around for over 100 years. A trained practitioner either floats their hands above your body and/or gently places them on your body. The life force energy from them is transferred to you. During a treatment, a person lies down on a table or mat and might feel a glowing radiance or warmth flow through their body. It’s 100% safe and doesn’t result in any side effects.

Reiki has been used as an alternative form of medicine to treat everything from headaches to insomnia. It’s also utilized to help reduce stress and tension. The number of reiki sessions you might need to treat your symptoms depends on what you’re experiencing and what your reiki practitioner recommends.

What is the importance of meditation with reiki?
There are several reasons meditation can be useful during reiki treatment. One of them is that you can use meditation practices before your session to help center you for the treatment and to better allow the transfer of energy to take place. Some individuals choose to meditate during their reiki session itself – this can be beneficial because it can create a greater level of inner peace and calm during the treatment. Even time spent meditating after reiki can be useful; some people find this allows them to fully immerse themselves in the peaceful atmosphere and lock in any healing they’ve gleaned from the practitioner.

Still wondering how meditation can enhance your reiki treatment? There are many possibilities. Meditation has many benefits in general, including:

  • Providing peace for the mind and body. Meditation can give you a sense of inner calm that allows you to feel more relaxed in both your physical and emotional experiences.
  • Reducing stress and anxiety levels. It can be hard to decompress from life’s stressors, but meditation can help you feel less anxious and preoccupied with outside worries. It provides your mind and your system as a whole with a break for a while.
  • Offering clarity of thought. After meditating, many people discover that their thoughts are a lot clearer and they’re able to problem-solve much more easily and effectively.
  • Improving sleep. Meditation can help you have a much better-quality sleep so that you’re getting the shut-eye you need to feel truly rested and rejuvenated.
  • Working with other healing practices. Meditation doesn’t interfere with any other kind of healing or medicinal treatments – rather, it works to enhance the benefits of other practices.

When you implement a meditation practice into your life, you’ll find you receive all of these benefits and then some. Using meditation in conjunction with reiki will also help to further your healing goals.

How do you do meditation for reiki?
As mentioned above, how and when you choose to do your meditation practice is a matter of personal choice. You might want to experiment with different times to see what works best for you. There are some key reiki meditation techniques that you can try out, such as the following potential routine:

1. Breathing in goodness
First, you’ll need to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible. Wear loose-fitting clothes or something that you won’t feel constricted in. Put yourself in a quiet environment with zero distractions. Sit or lie down on a mat with your back straight.

Practice deep breathing. Visualize yourself inhaling only positive things (light, joy, peace, etc.) and exhaling out any negative emotions that you’re holding onto. Picture these toxic things being washed away out of your system. Pay attention to how your mind and body are feeling the entire time. If outside thoughts rush in, just set them aside and continue focusing on your breathing.

2. Opening up your chakras
It’s important during meditation to make sure your chakras are open. If you’re doing this meditation before or after your reiki treatment, place your hand in front of your body at each chakra area (there are seven placed from the base of your spine to the top of your head) and hold this position for a few minutes.

As you move your hands around, imagine the energy of the universe is running through your hands into your chakras. This should help you feel a deeper sense of connection and relaxation.

3. Utilizing your own energy
To get a sense of your own healing energy either before or after your reiki treatment, place your palms together on top of your head. Take deep breaths and imagine removing any negative energy and replacing it with positive energy into your body and spirit. Repeat this process with your hands on your forehead, then the back of your head, and then your throat. Rest for a few moments.

Continue on by placing your hands on the backs of your shoulders, then on your chest covering your heart-space, then on your abdomen – remembering to breathe deeply the whole time. You can finish by placing your hands on your hips, knees, and feet. You should be able to feel the energy flowing at a good pace throughout your system while you do this practice.

4. Closing out with intention
A great way to end any meditation practice is by sitting with your hands in prayer in front of your chest (similar to the namaste pose in yoga). Breathe normally but pay close attention to how your body feels for at least five minutes. You should feel both relaxed and slightly energized.

The best part about meditation is that you can personalize your practice to fit your specific needs. If you require it during a reiki treatment to quiet your thoughts, you can utilize your deep breathing then. If you’d rather meditate before or after your reiki session, you also have this option to bolster your treatment. Whatever works best for you is the way to go.
